Radical System Art presents this impactful dance-theatre piece fusing contemporary and urban dance, martial arts, and theatre. Momentum of Isolation explores the timely themes of digital existences, shifting values, and social isolation for a thoughtful and kinetic show that aims to remind viewers how much we need each other.  To shape a digital world on stage, Momentum of Isolation places live interactive video and sound around the performers. These elements enhance ideas around how technology and our digital lives can both amplify us and disempower us. In relation to shifting values, there’s a generational context that is critical to the work: the young and the old. To explore this separation, a single dancer will remain an isolated solo performer throughout the work. As an older performer, their isolated role juxtaposes the performances of the younger ensemble dancers who perform both as a group and as individuals.  Research began on this project in 2018, after Artistic Director Shay Kuebler read about the “minister of loneliness” in the UK. This government position was instituted after the UK discovered that loneliness and isolation were more detrimental to the health of its citizens than cigarettes and alcohol. In 2018, it felt like a critical topic to speak about. Now, in 2024, it has become even more relevant. Radical System Art (RSA, est. 2014) fuses dance, theatre and martial arts with interactive technology and design to create impactful performances. The company, based in BC, is guided by a principle of harnessing opposition to find strength and balance: athleticism with artistry, structure with chaos, technique with instinct.  Artistic Director Shay Kuebler believes the performing arts are a transcendent form of storytelling. By weaving movement, sound and imagery together, they create a universal language that voices what can't be said with words.   “Pay What You Will” is offered on select performances. Here’s how it works: – You still need a ticket. Book your seats in advance at tickets.theplayhouse.ca, by calling our box office at 458-8344, or visiting us at 686 Queen Street. – At the performance, we will provide an envelope and ask audience members to pay whatever amount they wish (based on their own individual experience) following the performance. You decide the price of your tickets! The objective of “Pay What You Will” is to increase access to our programs, and to encourage our patrons to take a chance on new and exciting performances.

Radical System Art présente une pièce danse-théâtre percutante qui allie la danse contemporaine et urbaine, les arts martiaux et le théâtre. Momentum of Isolation explore les thèmes d’actualité liés à l’existence digitale, les valeurs changeantes et l’isolation sociale pour créer un spectacle cinétique bien réfléchi qui veut rappeler aux spectateurs combien nous avons besoin les uns des autres. Pour porter sur la scène un monde digital, Momentum of Isolation installe une expérience sonore et vidéo interactive en directe autour des artistes. Ces éléments jettent une lumière sur la façon dont la technologie et nos vies numériques peuvent à la fois nous mettre en valeur et nous déresponsabiliser. En relation avec les valeurs qui changent, un contexte générationnel est essential à l’œuvre : les jeunes et les vieux. Pour explorer cette division, un seul danseur restera isolé dans une performance solo pendant toute la durée de la présentation.  En tant qu’artiste plus âgé, son rôle isolé se juxtapose aux performances de l’ensemble de danseurs plus jeunes qui se présenteront comme groupe et aussi comme individus. Les recherches pour ce projet ont été entamées en 2018, après que le directeur artistique Shay Kuebler eut appris l’existence du « minister of loneliness » au Royaume-Uni. Ce poste gouvernemental a été créé suite à la découverte au Royaume-Uni que la solitude et l’isolation sont plus néfaste pour la santé de ses citoyens que la cigarette et l’alcool. En 2018, c’était, semblait-il, un sujet critique à traiter. Maintenant, en 2024, il est devenu encore plus pertinent. Radical System Art (RSA, est. 2014) fusionne la danse, le théâtre et les arts martiaux avec une technologie et un design interactif pour créer des performances percutantes. La compagnie, établie en Colombie-Britannique, se guide sur le principe d’exploiter l’opposition afin de trouver force et équilibre : l’athlétique et l’artistique, la structure et le chaos, la technique et l’instinct. Le directeur artistique Shay Kuebler croit que les arts de la scène sont une manière transcendante de raconter des histoires. En alliant mouvement, son et image, il crée un langage universel capable de dire ce que les mots de peuvent pas exprimer.   La formule “Vous décidez du prix” est offerte pour des spectacles sélectionnés. Voici comment ça marche : – Vous aurez quand même besoin d’un billet. Réservez votre siège à l’avance à tickets.theplayhouse.ca, en appelant notre billetterie au 458-8344,  ou en vous présentant au 686, rue Queen. – Une fois au spectacle, vous recevrez une enveloppe et on vous demandera de payer ce que vous souhaitez (selon votre appréciation personnelle) après le spectacle. Vous décidez du prix de vos billets! L’objectif de la formule « Vous décidez du prix » c’est d’accroître l’accès à nos programmes, et d’encourager notre public à assister à de nouveaux spectacles passionnants.
