Espagne, XVIIe siècle. Don Quichotte est un rêveur en quête d’idéal qui vit à travers les romans de chevalerie. Convaincu qu’il est appelé à rétablir la justice et à défendre les opprimés, il part à l’aventure avec son fidèle écuyer, Sancho Panza. À la fois comique et touchant, Don Quichotte voit des géants là où il n’y a que des moulins à vent et des princesses dans de belles gitanes.

Ce ballet en deux actes est tiré d’une des œuvres les plus importantes de la littérature espagnole : L’ingénieux Hidalgo Don Quichotte de la Manche, écrit par Miguel de Cervantès en 1605. Adapté par Marina Villanueva, ce ballet narratif et humoristique reste fidèle à la tradition classique avec des costumes fastueux et de riches décors. Ponctué de danses flamboyantes et de pas de deux virtuoses, c’est une véritable explosion de couleurs et d’énergie.
