Rhodnie Désir, laureate of the 2020 Grand Prix de la danse and associate artist at Place des Arts, takes up the challenge of a large-scale show for 11 performers and the 60 musicians of the Orchestre Métropolitain led by Canadian conductor Naomi Woo. A truly special event! To a valiant heart, nothing is impossible! For Rhodnie Désir, human connection and oral tradition are fundamental to any project. After the extraordinary trajectory of BOW’T TRAIL, which took her to seven different regions in the Americas, she tackles another major challenge, the result of a large-scale collaboration with composer Jorane; sound designer Engone Endong; RD Créations’ “house band,” the Orchestre Métropolitain; and the National Film Board, for immersive projections. The heart, with all its imbalances and upheavals, fascinates this “keeper of memories.” Drawing on testimonials by specialists and patients from the Montreal Heart Institute, she will translate the heart’s pulsations, along with its turmoil and weaknesses, into movement, echoing the defects in our society. A symphony of dance between the heart, the body, physical objects, video, light, music, and Afro-contemporary rhythms.

Rhodnie Désir, Grand Prix de la danse 2020 et artiste associée de la Place des Arts, relève le pari d’un spectacle à grand déploiement pour 11 interprètes et les 60 musiciens de l’Orchestre Métropolitain, dirigé par la cheffe d'orchestre canadienne Naomi Woo. Un événement plus qu’exceptionnel! À cœur vaillant rien d’impossible ! Pour Rhodnie Désir, la rencontre humaine et la tradition orale sont fondamentales à tout projet. Après la trajectoire extraordinaire de BOW’T TRAIL, qui l’a menée sur sept territoires des Amériques, elle aborde un autre défi de taille, fruit d’une collaboration d’envergure avec la compositrice Jorane, le concepteur sonore Engone Endong, le House Band de RD Créations, l’Orchestre Métropolitain, ainsi qu’avec l’Office national du film, pour des projections immersives. Le cœur, ses déséquilibres, ses chavirements, fascine cette « porteuse de mémoires ». Nourrie des témoignages de spécialistes et de patient·e·s de l’Institut de cardiologie de Montréal, elle transposera dans sa gestuelle les pulsations du cœur, mais également ses tumultes et ses failles, en écho aux failles sociétales. Une symphonie dansée entre le cœur, le corps, l’objet, la vidéo, la lumière, la musique et les rythmes afro-contemporains.
