There’s a new star shining in Italian dance firmament! Sofia Nappi offers us a soulful and healing quintet, an enticement to drop the masks and embrace the present moment. A current sensation on the European scene, Sofia Nappi has made a dazzling debut, winning commissions and awards at a dizzying pace. The works of this young Italian choreographer and dancer, who trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, reflect two fundamental influences: the gaga technique of choreographer Ohad Naharin, and the work of Hofesh Shechter. Premiered at the Venice Biennale during the pandemic, IMA is Japanese for “the present moment” and Hebrew for “mother,” associated with rebirth and renewal. Contrasting theatre and dance, past and present, old age and youth, nostalgia and exuberance, IMA invites us to join the great dance of life. Comforting.

Sofia Nappi nous offre un supplément d’âme avec un quintette salutaire, une incitation à laisser tomber les masques et à cultiver le moment présent. Nouvelle sensation de la scène européenne, Sofia Nappi connaît des débuts fulgurants où commandes et prix se succèdent à un rythme étourdissant. Les œuvres de cette jeune chorégraphe et danseuse italienne, formée à l’Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater à New York, sont nourries de deux influences fondamentales : la technique gaga du chorégraphe Ohad Naharin et le travail d’Hofesh Shechter. Créé durant la pandémie à la Biennale de Venise, IMA veut dire en japonais « le moment présent », et en hébreu « mère », associé à la renaissance et au renouveau.
