Join us for a rare live performance with life partners and creative collaborators Beverly Glenn-Copeland and Elizabeth Copeland for a magical evening of song, story, and shared joy. For over four decades, Canadian composer, singer and songwriter Beverly Glenn-Copeland—the visionary artist, Black trans elder and lifelong musician—has invoked and celebrated the power of community and connection through music. Alongside his partner Elizabeth— the Canadian-born author, theatre artist, and educator— they have created works rooted in one luminous truth: that art can dissolve the disconnection that keeps us apart. Glenn’s genre-defying career includes acting on the beloved children’s television show Mr. Dressup, the widespread rediscovery of his Polaris Heritage Prize-winning 1986 electronic masterpiece, Keyboard Fantasies, a genre-defying classic in synth composition and spiritual songwriting, and musical collaborations with Bon Iver and Sam Smith. Most recently, his first new album in nearly twenty years, The Ones Ahead, was praised by Pitchfork as “a joyous, hope-filled showcase of his singular voice and healing vision.” Elizabeth’s art blends creativity and activism, from touring with Second City and performing with the Honolulu Symphony, to writing celebrated books like Jazz: Nature’s Improvisation and Daring to Hope at the Cliff’s Edge. Their debut performance at the Chan Centre will nourish the spirit, spark connection, and remind us that in this tumultuous world, we are only stronger when we carry on together.
