Celebrate 30 years of musical excellence with the BC Chinese Music Association at their milestone anniversary concert! Under the baton of Maestra Peggy Hua, celebrating her ninth season leading the BC Chinese Orchestra, and Nathania Ko, conductor of the BC Youth Chinese Orchestra, this special evening showcases the vibrant legacy of Chinese classical music. Renowned erhu virtuoso Ji Wan takes center stage with the timeless Butterfly Lovers Erhu Concerto, her soulful interpretation bringing new life to this Chinese equivalent of Romeo and Juliet. The program continues with three orchestral masterpieces: the heroic Yellow River Cantata (featuring two local choirs: Vancouver Chinese Choir Association and Grand Ensemble Chorus), whose powerful melodies embody the Chinese spirit; the enchanting Silk Road, transporting listeners to ancient caravan routes; and the festive Spring Festival Overture, bursting with joyous energy. A unique highlight comes from our special collaboration between a plucked ensemble and a renowned zhongruan artist from New York, creating a captivating dialogue between traditional Chinese instruments. This carefully curated program offers a perfect blend of emotional depth, technical brilliance, and cultural significance – a true celebration of Chinese musical heritage.
