Originally from Havana, Cuba, violinist Irain Quirós has been living in Halifax since 2023. He recently made history as the first-ever representative of Nova Scotia to be awarded 1st prize in the strings category at the FCMF National Music Festival. Recognized as an impressive violinist with tremendous potential at the 2024 Nationals, Quirós has also won numerous other music prizes and awards in both Canada and Cuba. His captivating stage presence and intense artistry reflect his incredible inner strength and undeniable dedication to his craft. This concert marks the young violinist’s highly anticipated debut recital, featuring a compelling program that includes one of Eugene Ysaÿe's most popular works, the 'Ballade' Sonata no. 3 for solo violin, an early masterpiece by Gabriel Fauré, the Sonata in A major, op.13 for violin and piano, and Max Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, a four-movement homage brimming with traditional Scottish folk melodies. Currently studying music performance at Dalhousie University with Dr. Leonardo Perez, Irain is a recipient of the renewable Fountain Performing Arts Undergraduate Scholarship and the Fountain School Music Entrance Scholarship.
