Anyone who recalls the Paris-based Quatuor Élysée’s stunning performance for us three years ago will be eager to grab tickets for their return to Halifax. This multiple award-winning ensemble, known for blending Ukrainian, Russian, and French musical influences, has recorded over a dozen albums and graced top stages worldwide, including many of the most prestigious chamber music festivals. The quartet—comprising French violinist Pablo Schatzman, Russian violinist Vadim Tchijik, French violist Vincent Dormieu, and Ukrainian cellist Igor Kiritchenko—boasts collaborations with some of the biggest names in classical music. The quartet returns with a captivating program that marries French elegance with Russian depth. The lineup includes Maurice Ravel’s intricate and impressionistic “Quatuor à cordes,” Borys Lyatoshynsky’s powerful and emotive “Quartet No. 4, Op. 43,” and the deeply lyrical “Poème pour Quatuor à cordes, Op. 35” by Québécois composer Rachel Laurin. Their bold, innovative take on string quartet performance makes this ensemble unmissable! A co-presentation with Alliance Française Halifax and Alliance Française Toronto. Season Sponsor: Jules Chamberlain / Red Door Realty.
