Our pre-holiday Sensory-Accessible Concerts performance features the wonderful Maritime Brass Quintet with a program crafted to engage listeners of all ages. The Baroque sophistication of J.S. Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze,” reimagined with lush brass textures by Eugene Watts, brings calm and serenity, while Vince Guaraldi’s classic “Christmas Time is Here” adds a cozy, reflective melody that offers seasonal warmth. Mozart’s “March” from his opera “The Magic Flute” brings lighthearted charm and steady rhythms, perfect for relaxed listening. The program also includes the jazz-infused “What a Wonderful World,” arranged by Gary Slechta, and John Iveson’s muted arrangement of “Jingle Bells/Deck the Halls,” which introduces soft dynamics and accessible textures, creating a refreshing soundscape. “A Carol Fantasy,” also arranged by Iveson, weaves beloved carols into a vibrant, familiar medley, adding a gentle and joyful warmth to the program. Designed with sensory-friendly considerations, this concert provides a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy a rich brass music experience in a safe, comfortable environment with dimmed lighting and no applause for an optimal sensory experience. Hosted by pianist Jennifer King and co-presented with the Halifax Central Library.
