A fundraising concert in support of The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, we welcome you to join musicians The Poets, Walking Through the Fire, and more for a special evening to celebrate the man, the music, and his enduring legacy. In his final days, Canadian icon Gord Downie spent his time shining a light on reconciliation with Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. Performing their own versions of your favourite Gord Downie and Tragically Hip songs, and telling stories, these artists will join in our collective reconciliation journey to promote awareness, education, and thoughtful action. To learn more about The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund and ways you can help, visit their website. Performers The Poets The Poets are a Tragically Hip tribute band that is based in Moose Factory / Moosonee in northern Ontario. Lead singer Vic Linklater saw an opportunity to start something to support Gord Downie’s push for reconciliation in the wonderful unity that is the Downie Wenjack Fund, of which The Poets are members. The Poets have shows this October in Niagara Falls, Bracebridge, Burlington, and St. Catharines, ON. They will head into the studio to record their first original song in a few weeks. If you wish to support them through the purchase of t-shirts, a table will be set up. As the lyric in one of The Hip’s signature songs states…. “let’s get friendship right..”. The Poets are here tonight to share some good Canadian rock and roll, and to spark friendships with you all. We are pleased to present you…… THE POETS! Walking through the fire Walking Through the Fire brings the magic of collaboration to the stage, with award-winning First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists from across Turtle Island joined by Billboard charting/6x CFMA winners Sultans of String! Led by 2024 Burlington Performing Arts Centre Hall of Fame recipient Chris McKhool, Walking Through the Fire is a musical multimedia experience unlike any other. From Métis fiddling to an East Coast Kitchen Party, rumba to rock, to the drumming of the Pacific Northwest, experience the beauty and diversity of music from Turtle Island with Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk of the Métis Fiddler Quartet, Ojibwe Singer-Songwriter Marc Meriläinen (Nadjiwan), Coast Ts’msyen Singer-Songwriter Shannon Thunderbird, as well as virtual guests joining in on the big screen!
