<p>Featuring: M’Kayla Kongnetiman, A.N., Okechukwu Nnamchi, and Dizzy Walka</p> <p>Welcome to TD Amplify 2023-24, a season of unexpected and unmatched Calgary performers brought together by curator and spoken word icon Wakefield Brewster. Part live show and part underground DJ party - make TD Amplify part of your Friday or Saturday night in downtown Calgary.</p> <p>Calgary’s sixth Poet Laureate, published writer, and recording artist, Wakefield Brewster's vision for this four-part series of shows is titled <i><a href="/learn-and-engage/connects/td-incubator">PeoplePuzzle: Some Assembly Required</a>, </i>asking what it takes for a person to accept the pieces that make up their own puzzle of an identity.<em></em></p> <p><em>Part 2 </em>of this Amplify season centres the artistic riches of four undeniable Black artists in Calgary.</p> <p>M’Kayla Kongnetiman fuses her training in ballet, tap and jazz dance with her identity as a first generation Canadian from Suriname, the smallest country in South America.</p> <p>A.N. is a name you'll hear soon across music (her debut album is <i>I’m Not Afraid to Die Anymore</i>), journalism (read her award-winning <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/opinion-kim-kardashian-business-advice-no-one-wants-to-work-1.6386777">CBC article</a>), and arts entrepreneurial circles - if you haven't already - as she finds new ways to express her spirit and speak truth to power.</p> <p>Okechukwu Nnamchi is an Igbo man from Enugu, Nigeria, who is quickly making waves in Alberta as a spoken word artist, writer, and thinker, and counts Wakefield Brewster as a mentor. </p> <p>Dizzy Walka moved to Calgary from Botswana in 2020, and has already sold out beloved venues like The Ship &amp; Anchor, Broken City, and Commonwealth Bar &amp; Stage with his honest and raw Hip-Hop style, as he promised his father he would.</p> <p>Join Arts Commons Presents and Wakefield Brewster for a 60-minute showcase of these artists, plus a post-show party featuring a local DJ. </p> <p>Friday: DJ Spacy Jay</p> <p>Saturday: DJ Sid</p> <a>{{ mainCTALabel }} GET TICKETS</a> <ul> <li> {{ item.perf_dt|formatDate }} {{ item.perf_time }} <a>Select</a> <a>Select</a> </li> </ul> <a>View Production Info{{ mainCTALabel }}</a>
