The Pivot Series is intended for socially distanced outdoor audiences in response to COVID-19 measures. Public Energy Performing Arts has partnered with the Peterborough ReFrame Film Festival in the presentation of The Pivot Series.
The Pivot Series is inviting artists to re-imagine existing work, or create new work for an outdoor site-specific public setting in Peterborough/Nogojiwanong. Proposed locations may include (but are not limited to): parking lots, parks, park pavilions, beneath a bridge, etc. Performance works may be 12-30 minutes in length.

The Pivot Series will provide each successful project with:
• An outdoor presentation of their performance work for a socially distanced audiences
• A $2000-$4000 artist fee (depending on the number of artists and the length of the work)
• Technical production support
• Marketing and administrative support
• Professional photo and video documentation of the work (this may include artistic process documentation for a short documentary on the making of The Pivot Series). Video documentation will be circulated virtually to provide increased access to audiences
• A series of COVID-19 best practice rehearsal guidelines to follow
How projects are selected:
Artist(s)’ projects for The Pivot Series will be chosen by a selection committee. The selection
process will take into account:
1. Artistic merit of the proposed work
2. Performance history of the artist(s)
3. Relevance of the work (as defined by the applicant in their project description)
4. Viability and significance of the proposed location
How to apply
Please email us:
• A ½ page (max) cover letter introducing yourself or your group and why your work is a good fit with The Pivot Series.
• A one-page (max) project description including: names of artistic collaborators (if any). In your description please describe the performance work and answer the following questions: How is the work relevant and what is gained from presenting this work in the proposed location? (The applicant is asked to define why they believe their work is relevant/important. You are welcome to use any rationale you deem appropriate)
• A ½ page (max) list of technical requirements, and production supports requested including a detailed description of how the presentation location will be used and how it can safely accommodate socially distanced audiences.
• A one-two page (max) Artistic CV of principal artist(s).
• Support material: video or audio support material (5min max), or text or research material (5 pages max), or images (5 max).
Participants in the series will be expected to follow pandemic safety protocols for the live performance sector during rehearsals and performances. Those protocols will be posted on the Public Energy website on August 5. Performance works that are already in development or have already been presented are eligible. Public Energy Performing Arts encourages applications from artists of colour, indigenous artists, LGBTQ2S+ artists, deaf artists and artists living with disabilities.

Public Energy Performing Arts presents a season of contemporary dance, theatre and interdisciplinary performance. We support and present work by local, national, and international artists, while building community through outreach programming, and developing audiences that are knowledgeable and passionate.
